Youth Event 2006 - co-financed by the European Commission,
Vienna and Bad Ischl, 28 – 31 March 2006
and Informal Meeting of Youth Ministers,
Bad Ischl, 29 – 31 March 2006

The Youth Ministers conference in Bad Ischl will tackle the issues of positioning, new perspectives and new avenues for young people. The "Austria Youth Event" will be taking place alongside this conference and will also provide a framework for all delegates to have the opportunity to meet up and exchange views.

The morning Youth Minister workshops will approach the general topic from the perspective of current discussions on youth policy. At the same time, questions will be discussed such as how the active participation of young people in political events is developing and, and at a national level, how they are also finding their way on to the European agenda. A lively exchange of views should be expected during an event which will also deal with how youth policy targets can be better implemented. This can be effected within the framework of the White Paper "A New Impetus for European Youth" or the European Youth Pact (Annex I), as well as through the open method of co-ordination. The discussions of the participants in the Youth Event are based on a process which began in the autumn of 2005 with a "Preparatory Conference" in Vienna. Through talks with experts and also within the framework of on-line forums, the concerns of young people were able to be collated and summarised under three main points:

  • Youth and jobs

  • Value and significance of non-formal and informal learning

  • The future of young people in Europe

The results of the Youth Event will be presented to the Youth Ministers and European Commission representatives on 30 March 2006 in the form of a declaration.

Delegates can register here for the Informal Meeting of Youth Ministers.
