Vienna, 23 February 2006

Under the chairmanship of the European Commission there will be a workshop in Vienna on 23 February of the European NGOs covering consumer protection (the so-called European Consumer Centers Network – ECC-Net) about the possibilities of out-of-court settlements.

The basis for discussion will be a study commissioned by the state of Austria on the various different types of out-of-court settlements between consumers and entrepreneurs.

Further along the line, the advantages and disadvantages of different systems of out-of-court settlements for the consumers as well as for the economy will be analyzed, and experiences between national consumer protection organizations in the field will be exchanged. Light will also be shed on the difficulties of border-crossing conflicts, and there will be a discussion on the interaction between in-court and out-of-court settlement of disputes.
